- engine, the oil
- pan, usually made
- of stamped steel,
- plastic or die-cast
- aluminum, covers
- the exposed parts
- of the engine, as
- well as acting as a
- reservoir for the
- oil used to
- lubricate the
- engine. When the
- engine is off, the
- oil collects in the
- oil pan where it
- waits to be pumped
- into the engine as
- it starts.
